Frequently Asked Questions

What is alternative medicine?
Alternative medicine is anything that is not taught in conventional medical school. Medical schools primarily emphasize medication and surgery. Alternative medicine considers everything else, including acupuncture, homeopathy, massage, colonics, nutrition, vitamins and more.

What should I expect on my first visit?
We will have you complete a food journal, because we believe the food you eat has a lot to do with good health. This journal may also indicate certain food allergies.

We will also have you complete a symptom survey. Your analysis of how you feel is very important, and this survey often indicates the organ system where we need to focus.

You will also undergo an electrodermal screening, which is a non-invasive meridian stress analysis to help us fine-tune our focus even further.

Is that all?
Over the years, Dr. Casselberry has learned that heavy metals inhibit healing as well as poor digestion and colon function. Therefore, we often also check for the presence of heavy metals such as mercury, lead, cadmium, nickel and arsenic. We also believe that an initial consideration of cleansing the colon can help determine the extent of your current digestive function.

Following these tests, we typically recommend that patients start a 21 day detoxification, cleansing and purification program. As you develop new habits during these 21 days, you take supplements and eat certain foods to remove the toxins and cleanse your body. We also offer weekly meetings where you can discuss your experiences and receive support from others on the program.

Following this program, we can recommend specific supplements to keep the body in balance. Depending on other conditions we may find, we will develop a custom tailored approach to help restore your body to wellness.

How much does the initial visit cost?
$169 includes a history and physical exam, a symptom survey, food journal and an MSA screening.

Do you recommend nutritional supplements?
We typically recommend supplements, which average approximately $49 for a one-month supply.

Does Insurance Pay for Alternative Medicine?
Most insurances do not yet cover alternative medicine. We will submit your visits through our billing service, which in turn sends it to your insurance company. If your company pays, their check will be sent directly to you.

What is acupuncture?
Acupuncture originated in China over 5000 years ago. It is based on the belief that health is determined by the balanced flow of chi or qi, the vital life energy in the body that flows along twelve major organ systems and eight extra meridian systems. Acupuncture alleviates pain and can increase the immune response by balancing the flow of vital life energy through the body. It is a complete system of healing and provides effective treatments for numerous conditions from the common cold and flu, to menstrual problems, chronic fatigue and pain conditions.

How Does Acupuncture Work?
In the 1960s, Professor Kim Bong Han and a team of researchers in Korea attempted to document the existence of meridians in the human body using micro dissection techniques. They found evidence of an independent series of fine duct-like tubules corresponding to paths of traditional acupuncture meridians. These ducts are different from vascular and lymphatic systems previously identified by Western science. Fluids in these meridians sometimes travel in the same direction as the blood and lymph, but at other times flow in the opposite direction. French researcher Pierre de Vernejoul further established the existence of this separate meridian system. He injected radioactive isotopes into the acupoints of humans and tracked their movement with a special gamma-imaging camera. The isotopes traveled thirty centimeters along acupuncture meridians within 4 to 6 minutes.

What is Applied Kinesiology?
Applied Kinesiology looks at the relationship between posture, muscles, organs and glands because an imbalance in one of these areas can affect another. Dr. George Goodheart developed the system in the late 1960s along with his colleague Dr. Dan Duffy. With the examination of your posture, a person trained in Applied Kinesiology can detect muscle imbalances, which may affect organs and glands.

A typical session is scheduled for 30 minutes. One may need several weekly visits to correct a condition. Again, we emphasize the essentials in nutrition and supplementation to maintaining youthfulness and well-being.
